House plans inspired by the historic homes of Natchez, Mississippi Growing up in Natchez, Mississippi during the 1970's and 1980's, I took for granted and walked in sheer ignorance of the vast amount of rich architecture that surrounded me. It wasn't until I began to study architecture and later become a Building Designer, that I began to understand the significance of these historic homes. I did however pay particular attention to the "Shields town house" and "The Burn" as I often passed these two homes regularly. I always found them appealing, yet never imagined that I would one day replicate these period homes. This collection begins with two Greek revival home designs, "The Burn" and "The Shields Town House". I focused on being faithful in the replication of each homes exterior while maintaining a more modern floor plan design that reflects our evolution of living. As this portfolio expands, the architectural styles will include the aforementioned Greek Revival, Victorian, Italianate, Colonial (i.e. Georgian, Early Classical Revival), and in some cases a blend of these styles. Natchez has over 300 antebellum and period homes. Not all are registered as a national historic landmark and sizes vary from modest homes to mansions. With that being said, my collection of Natchez historic homes will constantly grow for some time as I continue the business of designing house plans and recognizing the treasures of a time when Natchez was an economic hub that boasted more millionaires per capita than any other place in America outside of New York, Boston, and Philadelphia. |
