When we talk about Bungalow Style homes, we are often referring to the Craftsman-style that originated in England. Early colonist brought the craftsman bungalow architectural style to the United States in the early 1900s. The Craftsman-style began in England as part of the British Arts and Crafts movement, in the 1860s. Originated by renowned socialist William Morris, the Arts and Crafts movement was his way of reacting to the almost industrial-like structures that were cropping up during the Industrial Revolution.
Although the movement did not remain trendy in the UK beyond the late 1800s, it was transported to the United States when exhibitions were held to demonstrate the work of William Morris and others who were a part of the Arts and Crafts movement. The trends began to get the notice of prominent designers and architects around the nation. As a result, the Craftsman or Bungalow style was born.
